Things to Know about Dog Flu

Hello guys!

This time, I’d like to share tips for puppy cold since it is getting cold.

Its symptoms include cough, runny nose, sleep, fever, lethargy, and loss of appetite.

If flu lasts more than a week, it can turn into pneumonia, so you should take your puppy to the vet as soon as possible if you think your puppy got flu.

I’d like to share how to treat your puppy when it gets flu.

Best way to fight back to flu is to eat and rest well.

Here are good dog foods for flu:

  1. How Pear Cider – pear is also good for human cold. If it is too hard to make hot pear cider, chop a pear in tiny pieces, mix them with honey, and put it in the microwave oven for couple minutes.
  2. High Protein Foods – boiled egg yolk can be the easiest high protein food that you can feed your sick puppy. But try not to feed too much to avoid diarrhea.

Here are some tips to treat symptoms:

  1. Cough – best way to treat cough is to keep humidity. You may put humidifier or even wet towel in the room to keep it humid. However, if your puppy coughs for so long, more than a week, you should take it to the vet for either kennel cough or , in worst case, canine distemper.
  2. Snot – clean it with wet tissue (baby tissue) frequently in gentle manner. If snot has turned into yellow, that means it is getting worse, so you should take your puppy to the vet when you see yellow snot on nose.
  3. Sleep – gently remove sleep on both eyes with eye drops and wet tissue. Do not use your fingers to remove sleeps since your hands may cause bacterial infection. Also, do not forget to keep eye area dry. You may use hair dryer.
  4. Fever – check his nose. If it is dry, he has fever. Keep it warm and humid. Do not forget to provide enough water.
  5. Loss of Appetite – provide high protein foods. The best way to feed high protein food is to mix with regular dog food to prevent imbalanced diet.
  6. Lethargy – Good rest is always the best treatment for lethargy. Also, having play time with your puppy can help him recover from lethargy.

Here are tips to avoid catching a dog flu:

  1. Do not wash your puppy.
  2. Provide dog bed or blanket to keep its abdomen warm.
  3. Ventilate the room often to get fresh air.
  4. Clean the room well.
  5. Block cold air.

Hope this help you to prevent dog flu in this season.

Be well everybody!

Starting a Vegan Meal for Lunch

Do you know that livestock industry uses 30% of land and 33% of water on the earth and emits much more green house gases than transportations?

To reduce environmental destruction and dramatical climate change happening now over the world, what we can easily do is to eat less meat, specifically, beef.

So, I have decided to start eating at least one vegan meal everyday.

My lunch today was actually salad size tofu, dried sweet potato, an apple, and a corn on a cob. Actually, they were quite a lot amount of food, delicious, low calories and high fibers.

If it is just too hard to avoid any meat in your meal, I recommend you to try Starbucks’ Bistro box made  by Organica Korea.

There are 2 bistro boxes, avocado wrap and cajun chicken wrap bistro box.

Avocado wrap box is 100% vegan, but chicken box is about 90% vegan.

What I tried was cajun chicken wrap bistro box because it was lower calories than avocado wrap, only 250cal.

Even it contain some chicken meat, it was very clean and healthy with lots of vegies in it.

So, change your meal can change our world!

Let’s do this together!

How to Take Care of Puppy with Tear Stain

I have a beautiful Bichon Frise girl named Ringo meaning an apple in Japanese.

She has beautiful big eyes, pearly white curly coat, and very cute personality.

Everything sound perfect!

However, only problem with her is tear stain all over her face.

Tear stain is usually seen with those puppies with white coat and big eyes mostly – white Poodle, Maltese, Bichon Frise, and etc.

There are many causes, but the most important cause is its own pigmentation.

Those puppies with tear pigmentation are likely to have darker tear stain.

Tear stain is also caused by bacterial colonization on wet area around eyes.

5 most affecting factors in tear stain are:

  1. Stress
  2. Intensive exercise/hotness
  3. Food allergy
  4. foreign materials – dusts, eye lashes
  5. Ear infection

The best way to avoid or treat tear stain is to dry wet hair well.

However, it is almost impossible that we dry our puppies eyes all day.

So here are some tips that will weaken or prevent tear stains.

  1. Applying baby power directly to wet area
  2. Feeding tear stain medicine (ex. Sparkle Eyes)
  3. Operation – lacrimal canaliculus

I know it is not easy once your dog get tear stain.

But never give up and bring his/her pretty clean face back!!

Sapporo Beer at Paul Bassett Cafe in Korea

Paul Bassett is one of the biggest Korean coffee franchise cafe and very well known for Lungo and vanilla icecream.

I am not a big fan of this franchise cafe since its coffee is a bit sour, but now I might like this cafe even more than before since it is selling my favorite Japanese beer, Sapporo in two different size, standard (32oml) and Grand (420ml), and two different types, Radler and Sapporo.

Just like its slogan”Bitter but Refreshing,” I really wanted to refresh myself after long day at work.

I wondered what kind of refreshments that I need to order with my Sapporo tab beer.

But no worry, they will give you plenty of mixed nuts bowl for each tab of beer and those nuts were very delicious!

If you are in Seoul, need just one glass of icy Sapporo beer on your way home, Paul Bassett will be your first choice, I am pretty sure!

Top 3 Dog Breeds that Shed the Least

Do you love dogs? But cannot stand with dog hair because of dog hair allergy?

It is almost impossible to find any dog breeds that never shed, but it is still possible to find dog breeds that shed least.

Let me introduce you top 3 dog breeds that shed the least today: Bichon Frise, Maltese, and Poodle.

From KimsKennel Korea Official Blog

First choice is Bichon Frise.

Bichon Frise is one of the most popular dog breeds in Korea now for their cute looking, friendly personality, and luxurious white curly hair.

But the most biggest feature that caught many people’ attention was their hypoallergenic hair, meaning not falling off much.

Next one is Toy Poodle.

Poodle is one of puppy breeds with lots of advantages – clever, compact size, and beautiful curly hair that doesn’t shed a lot.

Toy Poodle and Bichon Frise have lot of things in common – high dog IQ (ranked 2nd), beautiful curly hair, and healthy.

There are many colors of Poodles including apricot, black, silver, chocolate, cafe au lait, cream and more.

Last dog breed that I’d like to recommend you is Maltese.

Maltese is well known as indoor puppy because its small size and sweet temperament.

Only flaw that Maltese can have is being spoiled as prince or princess by their human family.

Also, because Maltese has silky white hair that grows long and compact body size, they are much more being loved by girls.
